I'm not sure if plagiarized is the right term,
but here's the story about George Lucas and his costume minions:

One day my mother and I were walking through a bookstore
when a paper doll book caught my eye. The book was
Glamorous Stars of the Forties Paper Dolls
by Tom Tierney. Right smack dab on the cover was a
dress designed by Vera West and worn by Maria Montez
in the 1944 movie Cobra Woman.

I thought to myself...
Hmm, that looks really familiar.
Gasp!
It's from Star Wars Episode I
!

After a bit of Internet research I found that the dress in
question is called the "Theed Palace Dress" and is worn
by Padme Amidala on Naboo.

Coincidence? You be the Judge
